A little bit of London for you

Mind the gap, look right →, See It. Say It. Sorted. - these are all things you would most likely not learn in a textbook but only if you go to the UK. Specifically to London. 🇬🇧

Today I have a small collection of typical things you might see or hear in London.

Let's get straight into it

↓ ↓ ↓

Mind the gap. This is an announcement that you will hear at every train station. It reminds you to be careful of the space between the train and the platform.

See it. Say it. Sorted. I promise this newsletter is not only about train announcements - this is the last one. This slogan is something you will hear frequently on the train and it simply means that if you see something strange/odd/different (e.g. an unattended bag), you should tell someone that works at the station and they will sort it out.

Stand on the right, walk on the left - This might not be something you will see or hear, but this is something you need to be aware of. When going up/down the escelator, you must always rememeber that British people walk on the left and stand still on the right.

On the left- / right-hand side - You may hear, doors will open on the right-hand side. This could sound confusing to you at first, but all it simply means is - doors will open on that side of the train, as it does vary from station to station. (Oops, this really is the last train-related point!)

Look right → When crossing the road in the UK, or at a Zebra Crossing, always remember to look right first as the cars are travelling on the other side of the road.

"I actually learned this when I was in London...

and it is still in my head!"

This comment (from one of our recent Instagram Reels) sums up it up perfectly - the effectiveness of going to an English-speaking country when trying to improve your language skills or immerse yourself in the culture!

We hope you enjoyed it and would love to see you soon!
